242 resident species inhabit the province of Neuquén (94,078 km2) located in Argentinian Patagonia. It is a province of special characteristics in the eyes of any birder. The diversity, quantity and existence of unique bird species makes San Martín de los Andes a birding attraction. The village is conveniently located in the converging point of three biogeographical regions, Sub-Antarctic forest, Patagonian Steppe and Andean Steppe, each with endemic species. As a result, it offers the opportunity of observing at least 100 bird species on a 4-day tour without travelling long distances. |
